Прикметник (THE ADJECTIVE) 1) Прикметники в англійській мові поділяються на прості (simple) {black, small, good), похідні (derivative) (hopeless,useful, beautiful) і складені (compound) (snow-white, life-giving).На відміну від української мови, в англійській прикметники не змінюються за родами, числами та відмінками: My brother is a tall boy. Katia is a tall girl. My friends are tall boys. 2) Прикметники в англійській мові мають вищий і найвищий ступені порівняння. а) Всі односкладові прикметники і двоскладові, що закінчуються на -у, -er, -ow, -ble, та деякі інші двоскладові прикметники утворюють вищий ступінь порівняння додаванням до основної форми прикметника закінчення -еr, а найвищий ступінь — додаванням закінчення -est:

Примітки: - Якщо прикметник закінчується на німий -е, то при утворенні вищого і найвищого ступенів порівняння, він опускається: large-larger-largest - Кінцевий голосний -у після приголосного при утворенні ступенів порівняння змінюється на -і: happy-happier-happiest б) Більшість двоскладових і багатоскладові прикметники утворюють вищий ступінь порівняння додаванням словаmore, а найвищий ступінь — додаванням слова most до основної форми прикметника:
в) Деякі прикметники утворюють вищий і найвищий ступені порівняння не за загальними правилами:
Примітка: — He мають ступенів порівняння такі прикметники: greenish, darkish, unsuitable, chief, principal, wooden, Italian, synthetic, analytical тощо. — Для порівняння двох предметів однакової якості вживається конструкція as ... as: This book is as interesting as that one. У заперечних реченнях у таких випадках вживають not so ... as: Our house is not so small as yours.
